Japan guard Takuya Kawamura has joined the Phoenix Suns for the pre-season summer league in a bid to become the second man from his country to play in the NBA.
Kawamura will try out for the Suns in the NBA summer league after deciding to put career before country, Japanese media reported on Friday.
The 193-centimetre (six-foot-three-inch) guard averaged over 20 points per game for Link Tochigi Brex of the Japan Basketball League last season but the 23-year-old is determined to break into the NBA.
Brex team mate Yuta Tabuse is the only Japanese to have played in the NBA, the diminutive point guard appearing in a handful of games for the Suns during the 2004-05 season.
The summer league begins this weekend.
