RIO DE JANEIRO, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The president of the Internacional soccer club, Vitorio Piffero, announced on Friday the sale of his star striker, Nilmar.
The member of the Brazilian national team is headed to play for Villarreal in Spain. The transfer of Nilmar is reported to involve 16.5 million euros.
Nilmar agreed to a deal with Villarreal for the next five years. He will leave immediately to Spain and will not be available for the team from Porto Alegre against Botafogo in Sunday's 14th round of the Brazilian Championship.
"Nilmar wants to continue to play for and help the Brazilian national team. Villarreal is the perfect stage for him to do so. In relation to Inter, we have a host of potential replacements, all of whom have very different character from Nilmar," said Piffero.
Before boarding a plane to Spain, Nilmar will first head to his hometown in the state of Parana to say goodbye to his family.
