MADRID, July 1 (Xinhua) -- No sooner has Real Madrid finished with the presentation of Brazilian midfielder Kaka than club President Florentino Perez promised that the club was close to making another big name signing.
This summer Real Madrid has already bought Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and defender Raul Albiol for a total cost of 175 million euros.
However, speaking on radio station Cadena Ser on Wednesday morning, Perez said that more players would arrive in the near future.
"The next signing will be confirmed tomorrow (Thursday) or even today, but I can't say who it is until it has been confirmed," said Perez. Madrid is known to be interested in Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, Valencia striker David Villa as well as Lyon forward Karim Benzema. Although the next player to arrive could also be Liverpool's Spanish international full back Alvaro Arbeloa.
"We have already signed one defender and it could be that we will sign another," hinted Perez.
Real Madrid has been criticized for spending such vast sums of money on Kaka and Ronaldo in a move that has clearly inflate the football transfer market. Perez defended his actions, although he was forced to concede that Real Madrid had needed to take out loans to finance the deals.
"We are in debt, but not to such a degree that nobody can loan us money. This is not an expense, it is an investment. Real Madrid is an economic, sporting and social model."
"We need to invest in great players in order to win titles," insisted Perez.
