Flamengo ends dry spell against Santos

RIO DE JANEIRO, July 26 (Xinhua) -- In their 1,000th game in the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo won for the first time at Santos on Sunday.

Flamengo came from behind to beat Santos 2-1 at the Vila Belmiro stadium in the 14th round of play.

Santos got on the board in the 69th minute when Robson nailed a ball that soared into the upper left hand of the Flamengo goal.

Flamengo did not take long to respond. In the 77th minute, Adriano grabbed the equalizer after he blasted the ball from long distance.

The winner came from a little bit of luck for Flamengo. On a crossed ball headed towards Adriano, Santos fullback Para attempted to knock the ball out of bounds, but instead tapped the ball into his own net.

Flamengo's victory also marked their first win in four games. They rose to ninth place with 20 points.

Santos fell to 11th place with 17 points.

Santos returns to the field on July 29 when they will travel to play Nautico.

On July 30, Flamengo will host the top team thus far, Atletcio-MG at the Maracana stadium.
